Frequently asked questions about student housing in Antwerp

Costs, contracts, deposits and practical matters for international students. Anything missing? Call +32 (0)475 53 04 30 or email ds@openview.be — we answer in English.

How much does a student room cost?

The rent is €600 per month, plus €80 as an advance payment for water, electricity, heating, Wi-Fi and the weekly cleaning of the shared areas. That advance is settled once a year against actual consumption; for most students it is enough or they get part of it back.

Does every room have its own bathroom?

Yes. Every room has a private bathroom with a shower cabin, toilet and washbasin with mirror. Only the two kitchens are shared.

Is the room furnished?

Yes: bed frame with slatted base, wardrobe, desk, desk chair, roller blind and your own fridge. You bring your own mattress and bedding.

How large are the rooms?

Between 22 and 28 m², including the private bathroom. A typical student room in Antwerp is 12 to 18 m² with shared facilities, so these rooms are well above average.

I am an Erasmus student staying only one semester. Is that possible?

The standard contract runs for twelve months, from September to August. Shorter stays are sometimes possible when a room becomes free mid-year. Contact us with your exact dates and we will tell you honestly whether we can help.

How far is it from the university?

The University of Antwerp City Campus is about 10 minutes by bike (2 km). AP Campus Spoor Noord is 3 minutes away, Karel de Grote Pothoekstraat 6 minutes and the Antwerp Maritime Academy 13 minutes. These are real cycling routes, not straight-line distances.

What do I need to sign a contract?

Your identity card or passport, proof of enrolment at your school or university, and the deposit. The deposit is a maximum of two months rent and is placed in a blocked account in your name.

Can I register my address here?

If you come from abroad and study in Belgium for a longer period, registering at your Antwerp address is often the practical option. Discuss it with us before you sign, as it needs the landlord's agreement.

Is there internet?

Yes, Wi-Fi covers the whole building and is included in the monthly charges.

When can I move in?

Contracts normally start on 1 September. If you are looking later in the academic year, get in touch — rooms do become available during the year.

Still have a question?
